At Summit Elementary, Mr. Tuttle’s 3rd grade class is taking writing to a new level, thanks to a generous donation from the Mountain Arts Council. The local arts organization donated $200 to “Literacy Through Photography,” an ongoing writing unit that incorporates students’ own photography and their writing. Students are able to engage with their surroundings in a unique way, thanks to four new digital cameras paid for in part by the Mountain Arts Council’s donation. Students have the opportunity to take the cameras home to complete assignments that incorporate both photography and writing. Principal Eric Owen is excited about the future of this program possibly expanding to other grade levels.
